Harold and Cathy’s Dumfries Cafe Dumfries, Virginia

Their breakfast is extremely delectable with numerous varieties of hot cakes, eggs, sandwiches, french toast, omelets, sides and beverages including four juices. Breakfast is 7-11am Monday through Friday and 7am-noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Their french toast was exactly as I expected it and on Saturdays diners are lined up down the middle of the restaurant waiting to order before sitting at one of their tables.

Lunch is served 11am until 2pm every day with their menu carrying such diverse items as: salads, hot and cold sandwiches, daily specials, soup, beverages and deserts. Hot corned beef on rye, roast beef supreme, pork barbeque, chicken salad platter and french dip are only a few possibilities from their menu.

Meadows Farms Golf Course and Restaurant 4300 Flat Run Road, Locust Grove, Virginia 22508

is worth a visit the next time you want to play golf, eat barbecue with slaw, and sit down on a brown leather couch. Their BBQ, slaw and a drink with tax was $5.98-what a delicious bargain. And their clubhouse has beautiful furnishings and an open layout that is close to perfection. For outdoor diners, there are some tables and chairs overlooking the golf course. The birds were chirping and the fare was delightful.

Even if you are not a golfer, this place is worth a visit. They are located at 4300 Flat Run Road/State Road 601 in Locust Grove, Virginia.

Amy’s Cafe 103 West Cambridge Street Fredericksburg, Virginia 22405

After a long day at the office plus a commute home on I-95, Amy’s friendly staff and exceptional service plus angus burgers, homemade desserts (berry torte today),creamy, delicious potato salad, caesar salads (chicken or steak), specials (today was salmon with wild rice), homemade potato soup and chili with cornbread really end your day in style and with grandeur. Their ambiance is old brick on one wall, wooden booths, and many pieces of memorabilia on the walls. I walked into Amy’s after a lengthy work day and I was instantly greeted by one of their staff members. I felt comfortable there which is always a welcome concept at any place of business.

Since the heat index was 106, their restaurant felt perfectly cool. For wine drinkers, Amy’s has wines by the glass and by the bottle from Virginian, Italian and Californian vineyards. If beer is your preferred beverage, there are beers on tap. Then there is the soda and iced tea options for the rest of you who prefer this as your beverage of choice.

Once the heat index cools sitting outside would be a great choice for diners, too. The next time you do not want to cook dinner, eat at Amy’s Cafe, exit I-95 and eat here.
